HTPLA V3 is 3D Printing evolved

Stronger & more durable for beautiful, functional prints with engineering-grade performance!

We've become HTPLA ninjas over the last 3 years and this formula is da bomb. Seriously, we created and tested many blends (including those from large, respected material manufactures) before selecting this formula for more durability without sacrificing HTPLA's exceptional stiffness, strength, and layer adhesion.

Leading Performance

Proto Pasta HTPLA V3 is designed for more consistent flow with less tendency towards clogging compared to Everyday PLA. It also has less moisture uptake compared to HTPLA v2 allowing higher temperature printing (up to 250C or more) for further improved layer adhesion and part strength! HTPLA v3 even outperforms HTPLA-CF based on HTPLA v2 by exhibiting as little as 0.5% shrinkage in x/y and negligible change in z during heat treating of 100% infill parts.

Exceptional Quality

Less lost time and material with less failed prints. Poor diameter, wet, and brittle filament can reduce reliability. That's why we implement dynamic diameter feedback, introduce no moisture during extrusion, and improved durability for HTPLA v3.

Competitive Cost

We're next leveling the business with more space, more extruders, and more productivity to reach a new economy of scale. We're sharing that advancement with you by bringing you more product for less.

Less Waste

HTPLA, like standard PLA, has a more eco-friendly, bio-renewable origin with less out-gassing and nano-particle emissions than most plastics, but then many companies spool PLA onto petroleum based, non-recyclable reels creating unnecessary plastic waste! Next, they add additional wasteful packaging like multiple boxes. Finally, they often out-source materials from far away at additional cost to the environment. We're controlling our carbon footprint and minimizing environmental impact by sourcing local materials, adding nothing unnecessary, and minimizing packaging waste. We lead the industry with locally-made, 100% recyclable cardboard spools that are both lightweight to ship and locally recyclable.

Works as advertised, mostly.

Overall, this stuff is great. It prints excellent, with less odor than the Prusament PLA I have. I've made some functional non-heat-treated parts and they came out excellent. I did a heat treat calibration print and I can confirm that it warps less than heat-treated Prusament PLA. My measurements were very close to the recommendation in the spec sheet as far as x/y/z scaling. When it came time to make some real heat-treated parts, I had pretty good luck. Warping is still possible with this filament, just less than a normal PLA. I had the most success when heat treating parts that were still glued to the build plate. Immediately after the print finished, I took the hot build plate and stuck it in a 200F preheated oven. Parts that remained adhered had the expected shrinkage and expansion, but little non-uniform warping. Parts that detached or parts that were unconstrained had some warping, but less than normal PLA. If you plan to heat treat this, it may take some iteration and some constraining. But it should warp less than a conventional heat-treated PLA. I managed to get dimensionally-accurate parts with acceptably low non-uniform warp, with only a couple scrap parts. I'm only aware of two downsides: price and unload stringing. For price, this is expensive if you're just printing non-heat-treated parts. But it's made in USA, it prints great, and it does warp less during heat treat. But this filament is very stringy during filament unload. In my Prusa MK3S and in my custom delta printer, unloading this filament leaves some impressively long strings. I didn't notice any stringing during printing, but during unloading the strings were longer than PETG. Maybe I didn't have the temperature quite right or the retraction speed quite right for unloading, but it was comical. 10/10, will use again.

Thanks for your review and for exploring heat treating! We published some new suggestions/findings based on work this past summer. You can read about it in our blog: https://www.proto-pasta.com/blogs/how-to/heat-treating-with-sand-for-lower-distortion

Expect consistency and quality

Great filament. My only desire is larger spool formats of some of the core materials.

Would Recommend

Very, very, very nice material, we have been using it for a production part at our facility and it has held up very well against our ovens. Only problem we have been seeing is pretty normal for 3D printed material, but after the cooling down process out of our ovens, the bottom of our part started to warp very minimally, much less then most 3D material.

This stuff is awesome.

I am new to 3-D printing but I didn't expect to get prints this strong. It bridges better than anything I have used to date too.
